Gibraltar Study Circle

The Gibraltar Study Circle was formed in 1975 for the benefit of all collectors, both advanced and novice interested in Gibraltar and Morocco Agencies philately and other collectables. It now has over 110 members.

To date the Circle has arranged the publication of 'Gibraltar Postal Stationery’, a very complete listing of this subject by Wally Jackson, then the leading collector of this material. This was followed by ‘British Post Offices and Agencies in Morocco 1857-1907 and Local Posts 1891- 1914’ by Dr Kenneth Clough, and GIBRALTAR: Quarantine & Disinfection of Mail - D Vandervelde/G Coates.

More recently it has published Gibraltar: “Errors & Varieties” by R G W Burton; Gibraltar: The Postal History and Postage Stamps to 1885 Volume 1 - Geoff Osborn; Gibraltar: Link with the Sea - Sam Smith; and Gibraltar: Collecting King George VI by Edmund Chambers.

Study Papers, twenty one in all, have been issued on various topics: Errors and Varieties, Forwarding Agents, and First Day Covers, to name but three.

Our newsletter The Rock' is published four times a year and is sent to all members including those overseas. Study Circle Auctions comprising 300 lots are held twice per annum (at the weekend meetings and takes postal bids) and a Packet Circuit is run for U.K. members.

Weekend meetings take place twice a year at different venues; Bournemouth, Lytham St Annes, and Peterborough have been visited recently. Members who cannot attend the full weekend are encouraged to on one or more days. Families of members are most welcome and the social side of the weekend is enjoyed by all. In addition there is an afternoon meeting in mid January in London and informal meetings from time to time to coincide with local Stamp Fairs ie Portishead (every August).

The Study Circle has been of great benefit to collectors worldwide and gives a warm welcome to new members, whether from the UK or overseas. Details of membership are available from:
